Weldnut

Weldnuts are nuts specifically designed to be permanently attached to sheet metal or structural components via welding. They feature projections (for projection welding) or shapes suitable for arc welding, providing a robust, fixed internal thread point on materials where tapping is impractical. Essential in automotive body-in-white construction, motorcycle frames, and metal cabinet manufacturing, products enable modular design and efficient final assembly by providing ready-made threaded points.

The most common type is the projection weldnut, which has small raised points that melt first during resistance welding to form a solid weld nugget. products often include features such as pilot locators and vent holes to ensure proper alignment and prevent trapped air during welding. This optimized geometry guarantees consistent, spatter-free weld quality when proper welding parameters are used.

To ensure a reliable weld, the weldnut material must be compatible with the base metal (typically mild steel, stainless steel, or aluminum). They are commonly supplied in low-carbon steel (often with a copper-plated finish to improve conductivity and resist corrosion) or in stainless steel (AISI 304/316).
